Samuel Thomas, most well known as SammyClassicSonicFan, is a 24-year old college student, formerly an YouTube personality, who lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is best known for his rants about video games and the Sonic fandom, where he frequently screamed and yelled "frick".

Biography[edit | edit source]

Sammy was born on October 31, 1998 to Wayne and Danielle Thomas (née Ferris). At some point in his childhood, he was diagnosed with autism. His interest in video games began at a young age, when he got the Sonic Mega Collection for the Nintendo Gamecube.

2013 - SCSF created, rise of internet fame[edit | edit source]

Sammy in 2013

Sammy began his first and most popular YouTube channel, SammyClassicSonicFan in April of 2013. For the first few months, he was relatively obscure, making video game reviews, along with the occasional rant. At the time, Sammy made videos frequently, sometimes uploading multiple videos a week.

That is, until July 15 of that year, where he made Stop Hating On Sonic, a video ranting about Sonic's hatedom. Shortly there after, he saw a massive spike in attention, mostly negative, from people entertained by his odd personality and rants.

Sometime in midsummer, Sammy, apparently in reaction to his newfound fame, privatized all of the videos on SammyClassicSonicFan and began uploading videos onto an another account he had, MultiMariosonic. Eventually, he unpriviatized the SCSF videos and began uploading to that channel again. He also made another channel, SammyTanookiGamer, where he made Nintendo-related videos, while putting everything else onto SCSF.

In early December, someone used Sammy’s email to dox him. In response, Sammy’s parents decided to shut down all of his YouTube channels on December 20, 2013. SammyClassicSonicFan, as we knew him then, was history.

On December 26, however, Sammy created a new channel, SnoopyFlyingAce64. This channel was kept completely private, with all of the videos unlisted and shared only with people Sammy trusted. Sammy made several videos in this time, even authoring and reading aloud his own written work, Escape from the Killer Volcano. On January 4, 2014, Sammy publicly uploaded a video to a channel known as CoolTechGaming, in which he played through the final stage of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In late January, links to all of Sammy’s videos on the SnoopyFlyingAce64 channel were leaked. They were consequently mirrored and reuploaded, and Sammy’s cover was blown, as he was not supposed to be using the internet due to psychological reasons.

2014 - Active start, then sharp drop in activity[edit | edit source]

Sammy then made a public channel on another video-sharing site Dailymotion, known as SammyPaperMarioFan. Back on YouTube, he made SnoopyFlyingAce64 a public channel in February. On February 7, Sammy created a brand new channel called Sammy Space-Time’s Channel. This channel was named after the Sammy character from Escape from the Killer Volcano, and over time, Sammy wrote more entries in the franchise such as Sammy Super Sonic Adventure, Enter Sammy Space-Time and even rebooting it into Skylar Space-Time before ultimately giving up on it.

Sammy stayed active throughout spring 2014, making several videos and even changing his channel name back to SammyClassicSonicFan. However, once summer arrived, Sammy’s presence on YouTube began to dwindle. The amount of videos Sammy uploaded dropped in number significantly, with only about four videos being uploaded in June at all.

On July 18, Sammy changed his channel name to its current one, Sammy the Classic Sonic Fan, in order to differentiate it from mirror channels. He also began posting on an auxiliary channel, Adventures in Retro Gaming, where he would post Let’s Plays of games. The AIRO channel was deleted a few months later. In August, Sammy created an blog, called SammyTanookiBlogger, which would later be deleted in early 2015. Sammy’s final public video of 2014 was uploaded on September 11, and Sammy soon disappeared from the public internet eye.

2015 - Brief return, then back to inactivity[edit | edit source]

All was quiet until February 2015, when Sammy revealed on his Google+ profile that he would be returning to videomaking, but that the videos would be audio only. He created a video on Sammy the Classic Sonic Fan in March, promising that he would upload videos weekly. This, however, never came to pass, and Sammy would not make another video until August 5, 2015. Sammy claimed that this time he was back for real. He uploaded a couple of videos sporadically after that, and eventually his videomaking and tweeting died off completely.

2016 - End of SCSF and move to Instagram[edit | edit source]

Sammy in 2016

On February 19, 2016, Sammy posted a video on YouTube, explaining his absence: he had been struggling with depression, which had caused him to lose his motivation to make videos. After talking with fans, however, he decided to return to videomaking. He announced that he had begun work on several videos, but before he uploaded any of them, he changed his mind and decided to abandon his channel again. In lieu of deleting the channel entirely, Sammy decided to make all of his videos private. Eventually, on September 5, 2016, Sammy deleted his official YouTube channel, marking the end of SammyClassicSonicFan.

During 2016, Sammy began using several different social media sites. He created a blog in May, but after a few posts it was abandoned and eventually deleted. Sammy also created an Instagram, Tumblr, and Vidme account. The Tumblr and Vidme have since been deleted, but he has continued to use his Instagram to this day.

Sammy today[edit | edit source]

Sammy occasionally uploads on his YouTube channel TheSammyClassicSonicFan, and also posts on his Instagram account on an regular basis. Sammy also sometimes appears on a friend's Twitch channel, SaltlyChicken.

Sammy is currently attending IUPUI (Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis).

Sammy is often mistakenly believed to be transgender, however he has denied this.
